Plan Veo is the Ministry of Health's aid programme covering up to €100 a year per child for prescription glasses or contact lenses. If the cost of the product is equal to or lower than that amount, you pay nothing; if it's higher, you only pay the difference in store.
Who can apply for Plan Veo?
Children and teenagers up to 16 years old with a diagnosed refractive vision problem and access to public healthcare (including MUFACE, MUGEJU and ISFAS mutual insurance members) can benefit from this aid.
- Age 5 or under: The prescription must be signed by an ophthalmologist, either through public or private healthcare.
- From age 6 onwards: There's more flexibility here: the prescription can be issued by an optician-optometrist at a Plan Veo–affiliated practice (like ours) or, if preferred, by an ophthalmologist.
- If you've already claimed the aid before: To apply again, at least one year must have passed since the aid was last granted.

How much does Plan Veo cover?
The Plan Veo aid amounts to a maximum of €100 per child, per year. This amount is applied directly to the final cost of the glasses or contact lenses: if the chosen product costs €100 or less, the family pays nothing at the time of purchase. If the cost is higher, you only pay the difference between the final price and the €100 covered by the Ministry.
It's worth noting that the aid is annual and per child, not per family. This means that if a household has two or more children who meet the requirements, each one can benefit from their own aid independently.
What can you buy with the Plan Veo aid?
Prescription glasses: the aid covers a basic frame along with organic prescription lenses and an anti-reflective coating. If the child already has a frame in good condition and only needs a new prescription, the aid can also be used solely to replace the lenses, without changing the frame.
Contact lenses: the plan covers both hydrophilic and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, as well as the maintenance solution needed for a full year of use.
In any of these cases, choosing a product beyond the basic option doesn't exclude you from the plan — it simply means paying the part that exceeds the €100 covered.
Plan Veo deadline: until 31 December 2026
Plan Veo launched on 17 December 2025, and families can apply for the aid until 31 December 2026. There's no interim deadline or quarterly application rounds within that period — the aid is available continuously for as long as the plan runs, so it can be requested at any time of year.
One thing worth noting: applications submitted in December 2026, right before the deadline closes, may be paid out during the 2027 financial year, without this affecting the validity of the aid. In any case, the sooner you apply, the sooner the process is resolved.

How to apply for the Plan Veo aid?
1. Get the prescription
If your child is 6 or older, we can carry out the eye test and issue the prescription right here, on the spot. If they're 5 or younger, the prescription must come from an ophthalmologist (through public healthcare, with a referral from your GP, or privately).
2. Apply at Óptica de Castro
Come in with the prescription, your health card (or CIPA code) and ID for both the child and the parent or guardian. Choose the glasses or contact lenses you want, and we'll handle the application directly with the Ministry. You won't need to do any paperwork yourself.
3. Collect your glasses or contact lenses
We'll let you know as soon as they're ready. If the cost is €100 or less, you pay nothing; if it's higher, you only pay the difference.
